Is the zodiac demonic?
Zodiac signs are everywhere: in dating profiles, memes, conversations. It can seem harmless, just a fun way to describe personality. But Scripture says something about it, and it’s worth knowing.
Yes, astrology is a practice the Bible forbids. Reading the stars to understand who you are or what will happen is a form of divination, which God calls detestable (Deuteronomy 18:10–12), and the prophets mocked astrologers who couldn’t save anyone (Isaiah 47:13–14). The stars aren’t evil; “the heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1). But they point to the Creator, not to your future. Your identity and your future are found in God, not in your birth month.

The wise men followed a star to Jesus
Magi from the east, men who studied the skies, saw a star and followed it all the way to Bethlehem. But notice what they did when they got there: they bowed down and worshiped the child, and gave Him their gifts (Matthew 2:1–11). The star’s whole purpose was to lead them to Jesus. That is what creation is for: not to tell your fortune, but to point you to Him.
Why it matters
Astrology teaches you to look for guidance, identity and comfort in something other than God. It can seem small, but it trains your heart to trust the wrong source. God says, “Do not be terrified by the signs in the heavens” (Jeremiah 10:2).
What to trust instead
Your personality and gifts come from the God who made you (Psalm 139:13–16). Your future is in His hands (Jeremiah 29:11). If you want guidance, ask Him: He promises wisdom to anyone who asks (James 1:5).
What the Bible says
- 01
No divination.
“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, practices divination or conjury, interprets omens, practices sorcery, casts spells, consults a medium or spiritist, or inquires of the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD. And because of these detestable things, the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you.”
Deuteronomy 18:10–12 - 02
Stargazers can’t save.
“You are wearied by your many counselors; let them come forward now and save you— your astrologers who observe the stars, who monthly predict your fate. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There will be no coals to warm them or fire to sit beside.”
Isaiah 47:13–14 - 03
Don’t fear the signs.
“This is what the LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the nations themselves are terrified by them.”
Jeremiah 10:2 - 04
The heavens declare God’s glory.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Psalm 19:1 - 05
Ask God for wisdom.
“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5 - 06
Who made you.
“For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139:13–16

Common questions
Is it a sin to know my zodiac sign?
Knowing your birth date isn’t a sin. The problem is looking to your sign for identity, guidance or your future.
Is it harmless if I don’t really believe it?
What you read every day shapes how you think. Scripture calls us to avoid even the practices around divination, not just the beliefs.
What about tarot, palm reading or crystals?
These are also forms of divination or seeking spiritual power apart from God, and Scripture forbids them (Leviticus 19:31; Deuteronomy 18:10–12).
