What if people are on Mars or the moon when the world ends?
As space travel becomes real, people wonder: if Jesus comes back while someone is on Mars or the moon, does the end of the world reach them too?
Yes. The end isn’t limited to the earth; Scripture says “the heavens will disappear with a roar” too (2 Peter 3:10), and God makes “new heavens and a new earth” (2 Peter 3:13). When Jesus returns, “every eye will see Him” (Revelation 1:7), and His angels “will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other” (Matthew 24:31). Believers on Mars would be caught up just like believers on earth, and no one anywhere can hide from His judgment (Revelation 6:15–16).

David couldn’t imagine a place beyond God
David wrote, “If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle by the farthest sea, even there Your hand will guide me” (Psalm 139:8–10). He was thinking of the farthest places he knew. The principle reaches as far as any rocket can go.
The whole creation is involved
Creation itself is waiting to be renewed (Romans 8:19–22). The end and the new beginning involve “the heavens and the earth,” all of creation, not just one planet.
No distance is too far
Jesus holds all things together (Colossians 1:17). Whether on a farm, a ship, or a base on Mars, every person will see Him, and every believer will be gathered to Him.
What the Bible says
- 01
The heavens and the earth.
“But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”
2 Peter 3:10–13 - 02
From one end of the heavens to the other.
“At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”
Matthew 24:30–31 - 03
Every eye will see Him.
“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.”
Revelation 1:7 - 04
Nowhere beyond Him.
“Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle by the farthest sea, even there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast.”
Psalm 139:7–10 - 05
All things hold together in Him.
“For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:16–17 - 06
Creation waiting.
“The creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not by its own will, but because of the One who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.”
Romans 8:19–22
Scripture from the Berean Standard Bible.
Read Psalm 139:1–12 and thank God that there is nowhere you could go that He isn’t.
Common questions
Is heaven in outer space?
No. Heaven is where God is fully present, not a location in our universe a spacecraft could reach.
Would people in space escape judgment?
No. No one, anywhere, can hide from God (Revelation 6:15–17).
Does the Bible mention other planets?
It speaks of the heavens, the sun, the moon and the stars, all created by God (Genesis 1:14–18), but not of other planets by name.
