Is Jesus God?
Many people respect Jesus as a great teacher or a prophet. But the question of whether He is God changes everything about how you respond to Him. Let’s look at what He actually said.
Yes. Jesus is God the Son, fully God and fully man. He claimed God’s own name (“before Abraham was born, I am,” John 8:58), said “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30), forgave sins, accepted worship, and said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father (John 14:9). John opens his Gospel plainly: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). There is one God, eternally Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus forgave a paralyzed man’s sins
Four friends lowered a paralyzed man through a roof so Jesus could heal him. Jesus looked at him and said, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” The religious teachers were stunned: “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” They were right about that, which was the point. Jesus then healed the man, so they would know He had authority on earth to forgive sins (Mark 2:1–12).
What He claimed
He used God’s holy name, “I AM,” for Himself, and the crowd picked up stones because they understood exactly what He meant (John 8:58–59). He said He would judge the world (Matthew 25:31–32). He accepted Thomas calling Him “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28).
“Just a good teacher” isn’t an option He left open
A man who said these things was either telling the truth or was badly deceived, or deceiving others. A good teacher doesn’t claim to be God unless he is.
One God, three persons
The Bible teaches there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4), and that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are each God (Matthew 28:19). This is the Trinity: not three gods, but one God in three persons.

Before Abraham was, I am.
““Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am! ””
John 8:58 - 03
- 04
The fullness of God in bodily form.
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form.”
Colossians 2:9 - 05
The exact image of God.
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

Common questions
Did Jesus ever say “I am God”?
He made the claim in the language His listeners understood: using God’s name “I AM,” claiming to forgive sins, and saying He and the Father are one. His hearers knew exactly what He meant, which is why they tried to stone Him.
How can Jesus be God and pray to the Father?
Jesus is God the Son, who became fully human. As a man, He prayed to the Father. The Trinity means the Father and the Son are distinct persons who share one divine nature.
Is Jesus a prophet?
Yes, and more. He is the prophet Moses spoke of, the eternal Son of God, and the King who will return.
