Common questions about Mark 9:24

Is it wrong to have doubts?

The father said two things in one breath: "I believe" and "help me with my doubt." Jesus did not scold him or send him away. Having questions does not mean your faith is gone. Faith is turning toward Jesus with the trust you have, even when it is mixed with worry. Jesus was also patient with his friend Thomas, who needed to see for himself before he could believe [[John 20:26-29]]. Jesus is not afraid of honest questions. What matters most is that you bring them to Him instead of walking away.

Apply it today: Write down one doubt you have and tell Jesus about it in your own words today.

Why did Jesus help this man even though his faith was mixed?

This father had watched his son suffer since childhood. He had already asked Jesus' followers for help, and they could not do it. He came to Jesus with nothing to hide. Jesus did not wait for his faith to be perfect. He spoke to the evil spirit hurting the boy, and the boy was lifted up and stood [[Mark 9:25-27]]. The Bible does not promise every prayer is answered the way we hope. But it clearly shows that Jesus welcomes people who come to Him honestly, and He cares about their pain.

Apply it today: Bring Jesus one hard thing you are carrying, just as it is, without cleaning it up first.

How do I pray this when my faith feels small?

Say it plainly, just as the father did. Tell Jesus what you do trust and where you feel stuck. You don't need fancy words or a strong feeling. Jesus once taught that even faith as small as a mustard seed, one of the tiniest seeds, matters [[Matthew 17:20]]. The power is not in how big your faith is. It is in the One you are trusting. Small faith placed in Jesus is still faith placed in Jesus, and He can help it grow.

Apply it today: Pray the father's short prayer out loud today: I believe, help my unbelief.
