Bible verses about

Grief and Loss.

For when someone is gone or something is broken: God’s comfort, close.

  1. 01

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.”

    Psalm 34:18

God doesn’t keep His distance from pain. When your heart is broken is exactly when He comes closest.

Live it: Tell God exactly how you feel today, in your own words. No church language needed. He’s close.

  2. 02

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

    Matthew 5:4

Jesus calls mourners blessed, not because grief is good, but because comfort is promised to them.

Live it: Reach out to someone who has walked through loss and let them sit with you. Don’t carry this alone.

  3. 03

“‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.””

    Revelation 21:4

This is the end of the story for everyone in Christ. Grief is real, but it isn’t permanent.

Live it: Write down one memory you’re grateful for and thank God for it.

  4. 04

    “Jesus wept.”

    John 11:35

Jesus wept at His friend’s grave, even though He was about to raise him from the dead. He doesn’t rush you through grief. He feels it with you.

    Psalm 23:4

David says “through.” The valley is real, but you won’t stay there, and you won’t walk it alone.

Live it: Read all of Psalm 23 out loud today, slowly. Let every line land.

  6. 06

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”

    2 Corinthians 1:3-4

God’s comfort isn’t meant to end with you. One day your healing will help someone else heal.

Live it: Let one person in today. Tell someone you trust how you’re really doing.

  7. 07

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

    Psalm 147:3
