Common questions about Psalm 37:5

What does it mean to commit my way to the Lord?

Your way is the road your life is on: your work, your family, your money, your plans. To commit it means to put it in God's hands instead of gripping it alone. The word in the original language paints a picture of rolling a heavy load onto someone stronger. It does not mean you stop caring or stop working. It means you stop acting as if everything depends on you. Proverbs says something close: trust the Lord with all your heart, and He will guide your steps. [[Proverbs 3:5-6]]

Apply it today: Name one area of your life you have been gripping tightly, and tell God you are placing it in His hands.

Does He will do it mean God will give me whatever I want?

No. The verse does not promise that every plan of ours will work out. It promises that God Himself will act, and He is good and wise. The very next verse says He will make what is right in your life shine like the dawn. [[Psalm 37:6]] The psalm also tells us to be still and wait patiently for Him. [[Psalm 37:7]] So you can expect God to work, but in His way and His time, which may look different from what you pictured. Trust means letting God be God.

Apply it today: Pray about one thing you want, and add the words, Your way, not only mine.

What if I try to trust God but still feel worried?

That is normal, and you have not failed. Worry is a feeling that shows up. Trust is a choice you can make again and again. The Bible does not ask you to pretend you are not afraid. It invites you to bring your worries to God, because He cares about you. [[1 Peter 5:7]] Tell Him exactly what is weighing on you, in your own words. Then let Him carry it, and do the next small thing in front of you.

Apply it today: Write down your biggest worry today, pray over it out loud, and then do one small helpful step.
