“So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?””
In plain words: God is my helper, so I can face people and problems without fear, because no one can undo His care for me.
What Hebrews 13:6 means.
Because God has promised never to leave, we can say with confidence: the Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.
Common questions about Hebrews 13:6
Does this mean nothing bad will ever happen to me?
No. The verse does not say trouble will never come. The people who first heard it were facing real pain, and some were insulted and even put in prison. The question "What can man do to me?" means that no person can take away what matters most: God's love and our place with Him. People may hurt us, but they cannot cancel God's promise. Jesus spoke in a similar way in Matthew 10:28, saying we should not fear those who can harm the body but cannot touch the soul. Fear does not get the final word.
Apply it today: Name one person or problem you fear, and say out loud, "The Lord is my helper."
Who is "the Lord," and why can I say He is my helper?
The Lord is God. Right before this verse, in Hebrews 13:5, God promises that He will never leave His people and never walk away from them. That promise is why the writer can speak so boldly. Christians believe God showed how much He cares when Jesus died for our sins and rose again. Jesus also told His followers in Matthew 28:20 that He is with them always. A helper who never leaves is very different from one who comes and goes. You can lean on Him.
Apply it today: Read Hebrews 13:5 slowly once today and thank God for His promise to stay.
What if I still feel afraid?
Feeling afraid does not mean you have failed. Fear is a normal human feeling, and this verse is not a rule that says you must never feel scared. It is a way to answer fear: you remind yourself who is with you. In Psalm 56:3, the writer says that when he is afraid, he trusts God. Notice he says "when," not "if." Trusting can start small. You can tell God exactly what scares you and ask Him to help. Then say the words of this verse out loud.
Apply it today: Tell God in a short prayer what scares you most today and ask Him to help.
Ask anything about it.
Every question gets a clear answer in seconds, and a way to live it today.
Live it today.
Say it out loud before the moment you dread: “The Lord is my helper.”
Pray it back.
Lord, You are my helper. I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?
Carry it all day.
