““Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as crimson, they will become like wool.”
In plain words: God invites you to come and talk things over with Him. Even if the wrong you've done has stained you deeply, He is able to make you completely clean.
What Isaiah 1:18 means.
God says, “Come, let us reason together. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”
Common questions about Isaiah 1:18
What does "let us reason together" mean?
In Isaiah's day, God was speaking to people who hurt others and still went through the motions of worship. He did not shout and walk away. He invited them to sit down and talk it through honestly, like settling a matter in the open. This is an invitation, not a trap. God wants the truth said out loud, and He is ready to offer a way to make things right. You can see the whole setting in [[Isaiah 1:16-18]].
Apply it today: Read Isaiah 1:16-18 slowly and notice that God invites before He asks anything of us.
What do scarlet and crimson mean here?
Scarlet and crimson were deep red dyes. Once they soaked into cloth, they were very hard to get out. Think of a stain that no amount of scrubbing can remove. The Bible uses that picture for sin, which means the wrong we do and the ways we turn away from God. God chooses the hardest stain on purpose. Then He says it can become white like snow or clean wool. No stain is too deep for Him.
Apply it today: Write down one thing you wish you could undo, then bring it to God in prayer.
Can anyone really be made clean, no matter what they've done?
The Bible says yes for everyone who comes to God. Jesus died for our sins, and God forgives people who turn from wrong and trust Him. Turning back is called repenting, which simply means changing direction. It is not earning forgiveness by being good enough. It is coming to God as you are and trusting what Jesus has done. Read what [[1 John 1:7-9]] says about being cleansed.
Apply it today: Take a quiet minute today to tell God honestly what weighs on you and ask Him to forgive you.
