Common questions about Isaiah 40:31

What does it mean to wait on the Lord?

In the Bible, waiting is not just sitting around. It means hoping in God and leaning your whole weight on Him, like a rope that holds because it is pulled tight. You stop trying to carry everything alone. You bring your worries to Him, trust that He is good and strong, and keep going with Him. The old word behind "wait" carries that picture of a strong cord. So waiting is trust that stays active. You can see someone doing exactly this in [[Psalm 62:1-2]].

Apply it today: Pray for one minute today, telling God the one thing weighing on you and asking for His help with it.

Does this mean I will never feel tired?

No. Look at the verses right before it. They say even strong young people get tired and stumble. So being tired is normal. The promise is that those who trust God get their strength renewed, which means filled up again. Notice the order: flying, running, then walking. Sometimes the win is simply walking and not fainting, which means you keep going on an ordinary day. The same passage says God Himself never gets tired. Read it in [[Isaiah 40:28-31]].

Apply it today: Name one place in your life where you feel worn out, and ask God to renew your strength there.

Who was this written to, and does it fit me?

Isaiah wrote to God's people when they felt worn down and forgotten. Some of them thought God no longer saw their trouble. Isaiah answered that God is the everlasting Creator who does not miss a thing and does not run out of strength. Those words still show us who God is today. Jesus also speaks to people who are weary and carrying heavy loads. He invites them to come to Him and find rest. You can read that in [[Matthew 11:28-30]].

Apply it today: Read Matthew 11:28-30 slowly once today and notice what Jesus invites tired people to do.
