Common questions about Psalm 37:8

Does this mean I'm never allowed to feel angry?

No. Anger is a feeling, and the Bible knows people feel it. Ephesians 4 says you can be angry and still not do wrong, and it warns us not to hold onto anger overnight. The trouble in Psalm 37:8 is what happens when we keep feeding anger. It grows into bitter thoughts, harsh words, and rage that hurts us and the people near us. God invites us to bring the feeling to Him and put it down, instead of carrying it around. [[Ephesians 4:26-27]]

Apply it today: Tell God in a short prayer today what made you angry, and ask Him to help you put it down.

What does fret mean, and how do I stop doing it?

To fret is to worry over and over, like picking at a sore spot. Your mind runs in circles and never finds rest. The verse just before this one says to be still before the Lord and wait for Him patiently. Stopping is not a trick you pull off by willpower. It is handing the worry to Someone stronger and trusting that He cares about you. The Bible says we can bring everything to Him in prayer, and He holds it with us. [[Psalm 37:7]] [[1 Peter 5:7]]

Apply it today: Name the one worry that keeps looping in your head, and pray it out loud to God before you go to bed.

What if someone really did wrong me? Am I just supposed to ignore it?

No. David wrote this psalm about people who do wrong and seem to get away with it. He does not say the hurt is small. He says that burning with anger will not fix it and will only harm you. The Bible says God sees what happened and will make things right, so the job of settling the score is not ours to carry. Letting go of rage does not mean pretending it did not hurt, and it never means staying where you are being harmed. [[Psalm 37:1-2]] [[Romans 12:19]]

Apply it today: Tell one safe person what happened, and ask God to handle the justice so you can stop carrying it.
