Common questions about Romans 3:23-24

What does it mean that everyone has sinned?

Sin is choosing our own way over God's way. It shows up in what we do, what we say, and even what we think. The verse says everyone has done this, so no one is left out. Falling short of the glory of God means we miss the goodness and beauty He made us to reflect, like an archer who keeps missing the target. This is not meant to shame you. It is the honest starting point for seeing why God's gift matters so much (Romans 3:23).

Apply it today: Take one quiet minute to tell God honestly about one thing you wish you had done differently.

What does it mean to be justified by grace?

Justified is a courtroom word. It means a judge declares you right, with nothing held against you. Grace means a gift you did not earn and cannot pay for. Put together, God makes people right with Himself as a gift, not as a prize for being good enough. That is good news, because the verse just said no one is good enough. Ephesians 2:8-9 says the same thing: we are saved by grace, by trusting Jesus, not by our own work.

Apply it today: Say thank you to God today for one gift you did not earn.

How does Jesus make this possible?

Redemption means buying someone back, like paying the price to rescue a person held captive. Jesus paid that price Himself. He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead. Romans 5:8 says God showed His love for us this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners. You do not have to clean up your life first. God invites you to trust Jesus and receive what He has already done for you.

Apply it today: Read John 3:16 slowly and notice what it says about how much God loves people.
