Why do I feel so alone?
You can be in a room full of people, or have hundreds of followers, and still feel like no one really knows you. If that is where you are tonight, you are far from the only one. Most young adults say they feel it.
Loneliness is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It is a signal, like hunger, that you were made for connection. God said it in the very beginning: “It is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). It eases when you are known, not just seen: a few people who know your real life, and a relationship with God, who never leaves (Hebrews 13:5).

Elijah thought he was the only one left
Right after his greatest victory, the prophet Elijah ran into the wilderness, sat under a tree and told God he wanted to die. “I alone am left,” he said (1 Kings 19:10). God’s first answer was food and sleep. Then He spoke in a gentle whisper. Then He told Elijah the truth: seven thousand others were still faithful, and He gave him a friend, Elisha, to walk with (1 Kings 19:18–21). Elijah was never as alone as he felt.
Why it hits so hard now
More screens and fewer tables. Moving for work. Friendships that faded after school. None of it is your fault, but all of it adds up. Connection used to happen automatically. Now it has to be chosen.
What actually helps
Small and regular beats big and rare. A weekly table with the same six people does more than a crowded event once a month.
Go first. Invite one person to coffee or a walk. Most people are waiting for someone else to make the move.
Serve somewhere. Working beside people toward something that matters builds friendship faster than talking.
Talk to God about it. He is not a substitute for people, but He is the friend who never leaves (Psalm 68:6 says He sets the lonely in families).

What the Bible says
- 01
You were made for connection.
“The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.””
Genesis 2:18 - 02
God sets the lonely in families.
“God settles the lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.”
Psalm 68:6 - 03
He will never leave you.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.””
Hebrews 13:5 - 04
- 05
Two are better than one.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up!”
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 - 06
He is with you always.
“and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””
Matthew 28:20
Scripture from the Berean Standard Bible.
Send one message today to someone you’d like to know better: “Want to grab coffee this week?” Then look for a weekly group where the same faces show up.
Common questions
Is it a sin to feel lonely?
No. Jesus Himself felt alone: His friends fell asleep while He prayed in Gethsemane. Loneliness is a feeling to bring to God, not a failure.
How do I make friends as an adult?
Show up to the same place on a regular schedule, go first with invitations, and give it time. Most real friendships take months of regular contact.
Can God really fill the void?
God meets us in a way no person can, and He also designed us to need people. Usually He answers loneliness through both: His presence and a community.
You weren’t made to do life alone.
A Table is a small group of six to eight people who meet every week, by video or in person, and actually know each other. Find yours.
