Why do I feel worthless?
Maybe it’s a quiet voice that says you don’t matter, you’re too much or not enough, everyone would be fine without you. If you’re hearing that tonight, please hear this first: that voice is lying to you.
Feeling worthless usually comes from measuring yourself by what you do, what others think, or what you’ve been through. God measures differently. You were made in His image (Genesis 1:27), fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and loved so much that Jesus gave His life for you (Romans 5:8). Your worth was settled before you did anything right or wrong. It is not up for a vote.

Gideon was hiding when God called him mighty
Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from his enemies. He called his family the weakest in his tribe and himself the least in his family. The angel of the LORD greeted him: “The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:11–15). God didn’t see a scared man in a hole. He saw who Gideon really was. He sees you that way too.
Where the feeling comes from
Comparison online. Words someone said to you as a child. Failure. Rejection. Depression, which can make everything feel heavier than it is. None of these gets to define you. They are real, but they are not the truth about you.
What God says about you
You are chosen (1 Peter 2:9). You are His workmanship, made for good works (Ephesians 2:10). You are a child of God (John 1:12). You are so valued that He knows the number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7).

What the Bible says

Psalm 139:13–14 - 02
Made in His image.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Common questions
Is feeling worthless a sign of depression?
It can be. If it lasts for weeks, or comes with hopelessness, changes in sleep or appetite, or thoughts of not wanting to live, talk to a doctor or counselor. Getting help is wisdom, not weakness.
How do I stop comparing myself to others?
Limit what feeds it, often social media. Thank God for one specific thing about yourself each day. Compare yourself only to who you were yesterday.
Does God really love me after everything I’ve done?
Yes. Christ died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). His love was never based on your record.
You don’t have to carry this alone tonight.
