“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
In plain words: Jesus asks if all your worrying has ever made your life even a little bit longer. It never has.
What Luke 12:25 means.
Jesus asks a plain question: has worry ever added a single hour to your life? It takes energy and gives nothing back.
Common questions about Luke 12:25
Does Jesus mean I should stop caring about things?
No. Jesus is not telling us to stop caring or planning. Planning is wise. Worry is different. Worry is fear that spins in circles and gets nowhere. In this part of Luke, Jesus is talking to people who are afraid about food and clothes. He points out that worry cannot add even a little time to our lives. He also says God cares for the birds, so He cares for us much more. You can read it for yourself in [[Luke 12:22-26]].
Apply it today: Write down one thing you are worried about, then circle the one part you can act on today.
So what should I do with my worries instead?
Jesus points us to God. The Bible says to bring our needs to Him in prayer, with thanks, and His peace will guard our hearts and minds. It also says to hand Him our worries because He cares about us. That does not mean the problem always disappears right away. It means you do not have to carry it alone. You can talk to Him in plain words, like talking to a good father. See [[Philippians 4:6-7]] and [[1 Peter 5:7]].
Apply it today: Say a short prayer right now and tell God the one worry that keeps coming back.
Is worrying a sin, or does it mean my faith is weak?
Not at all. Feeling worried does not mean your faith has failed. Faith is not a score. Jesus knows we are weak, and He speaks kindly here. He reminds us that our Father knows what we need and is glad to care for us. Some worries are big, like sickness or money trouble. If worry feels heavy every day, it is wise to talk with a doctor or counselor too. Read [[Luke 12:29-32]].
Apply it today: Tell one person you trust about a worry you have been carrying alone.
Ask anything about it.
Every question gets a clear answer in seconds, and a way to live it today.
Live it today.
Catch yourself worrying today and ask Jesus’ question out loud. Then turn that energy into one thing you can actually do.
Pray it back.
Jesus, worry has never added anything to my life. I trade it for trust today.
Carry it all day.
